The entrance to the cemetery, at the top of Jimena. The castle is at the south end of the peak and this is facing north. I think I have made it look more ‘Gothic’ than it actually is, maybe because I have drawn in all the black mouldy bits which contrast beautifully with the white paint and the tenacious plants that are trying to take over! Inside is well kept. I have been in a few times but always feel like I shouldn’t be there really…I never knew that the coffins are in concrete ‘tubes’ in the walls. I definitely want to be cremated (but hopefully not yet 🙂 )Sundays and Saint’s days you pass lots of people, mainly widows, walking the steep cobbles up to visit the graves.

Lovely picture! We have been there a few times and it’s definitely got a very heavy atmosphere once you go beyond the gates.
